Talented and expressive as our Yorkies are, we often don't get a chance to see the fruits of their labor. For a while, I've wanted to see us post some of our students' artistry online. So, as a means to that end, we now have a "
Student Showcase" area on the www1 website.
Our inaugural feature: the
9th grade TIL class photo editing project. Click
here to go see more very cool nature images that have been transformed using Photoshop. You'll be impressed by the creativity! Keep in mind as you scroll through the pages that these students had only 40 minutes to complete this particular project.
The 9th graders would appreciate your feedback. I encourage you to pick out one or two photos

that you think deserve special commendation, jot down the titles, come back here and write a comment. They'll check in every now and again and see what you thought. Who knows? One day you might see one of these budding artist's illustrations hanging in a museum...

Of all the pictures I have to say that my favorite is kat's (i think it's called Valley Angel). Even though she basically changed the whole picture, it still win's my first place. There are a couple others that, how should I say, stand out. Like...Genevieve's...What exactly was it originally?

After viewing them all I think fire is my favorite, because its a great coloration and I still remember my first visit to the park when they would dump a live fire off the mountain and i believe it was half dome but nice job, good title, well felt. I also kind of like Guano, not so much for title, but for the negative shadow of the bird. It is an interesting use of a tool that can totally alter what the light origionally reflects to the lens. Then to, there is the sandbox of Joseph. a better name perhaps, but kudos to Joseph. As for the rest, "each in its own way", but perhaps a suggestion for some: medium rare as opposed to well done and a little more thought on the titles, they are part of the hook. Go Rainbow Brigade!
Wonderful creativity, I especially liked valley angel, da barn, stealth penguin, and blue roses. I agree with the advice about a little less done to the photos. The ones that were most effective left some realism in their pictures, which gives the veiwer some context and makes the changes that are made to the photo have more impact. Overall, very nicely done.
There were many that are beautiful and artistic, such as the "Black & White in E Minor" which I think is beautiful, and more dramatic than the original photo. I enjoyed "Eewwwww" because the artist didn't just change what was there, but duplicated the penguins to make a little vignette.
Genevieve's was originally a pic of Big Sur, the title was "my own little world". I liked that one too, it completely killed the picture and made it so that no one really knew what it was, but it was well done.
